Look up
Mt. Pinos sits at 8,831 feet, above much of the coastal fog and valley haze. On clear, moonless nights the area is popular with amateur astronomers, and many visiting astronomers are happy to share a look through their eyepiece—just ask before approaching their equipment.
Local tip: bring a red flashlight and arrive before sundown. Conditions vary with weather, moonlight, smoke, and seasonal road access.

Long before there was a local high school, students from these mountain communities were bussed to schools miles away. When classmates asked where they came from, the answer was always the same.
“We’re from The Hill.”
Today that name stands for the mountain communities of Frazier Park, Pine Mountain Club, Lake of the Woods, Lebec, and Lockwood Valley, along with the surrounding landscapes of Cuddy Valley and Mt. Pinos — and for the people who built this place before us.
